jones tube

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Nov 08, 2002 4:40 pm

I have an excessive tearing problem that was diagnosed as resulting from a scarred tear duct. A Jones duct was installed and became disloged after two weeks. The proceedure was repeated with extra care (tying down?).
It also dislodged after a couple of weeks.

My doctor offered three suggestions: 1. Try again and no gauantees 2. Take the tube out and live with the tearing. 3.Try the proceedure again using a new type of Jone Tube called a "Pyrex" tube that has been made with rings or ridges that would prevent it from disloging. It would require a frontal incision by the ridge of the nose. He said the tube has only recently become available and he has had no experience in doing the proceedure.

My question is: What has been reported about the procedure relative to its sucess in staying put, safety, scarring, and is there a specialist in the Tucson, AZ area familiar with this new proceedure?

Thank you for your response.
