Blood behind retina? My 72 yr old Mom has had laser eye surgery and uses eye drops twice daily. On last visit to eye doc, he said next visit would entail an angiograph. That was done today. Doc said on last visit he had seen a speck of blood? What is this due to and what do we do about it. What is this called?
Re: Blood behind retina?A spot of blood in the retina can be from many things. At her age it's likely to be macular degeneration, diabetes, or another blood vessel problem, or can't find a good reason.
An angiogram shows where the blood is coming from and if it's treatable.
My 72 yr old Mom has had laser eye surgery and uses eye drops twice daily. On last visit to eye doc, he said next visit would entail an angiograph...
Re: Re: Blood behind retina? Thanks for your quick response. I believe it is due to a combination of macular degeneration and being a controlled diabetic for many years. Since the angiograph was done and her next appt. with Dr. is next week, what can she expect him to say and do? Appreciate your opinion.

Re: Re: Re: Blood behind retina? It depends on what Dr sees on the angiogram. If the leakage is away from the center of the eye, it may be treated. If it's close to the center of the eye, the laser treatment can actually make her vision worse so it won't be done.
